Types of Abuse
While domestic abuse is often associated with physical violence, this is only one type of abuse. Domestic violence can take on many forms.
Signs of Abuse
There are many signs of an abusive relationship and every situation is different. If you find that you are afraid of your partner, this may be a sign of an unhealthy or abusive relationship.
Leaving Safely
The decision to leave an abusive partner can be difficult. Many people ask, why women stay? Often the decision to stay is complex and linked to the safety of you and your children, financial dependence, feelings of shame, and your place in the community. It is important to have a safety plan whether or not you’re ready to leave an abusive relationship - our counsellors can help.
Shelter or Counselling - Which is right for you?
Being in an abusive situation can be lonely, confusing and scary. If you are having doubts about the health of your relationship, or would just like to talk to a professional about it, Auberge Shalom is here, 24/7.
