Support for you and your child(ren)

If you are a mother affected by domestic abuse, Auberge Shalom has a variety of services that can support you and your child(ren) (up to age 17) together.  When the time is right for you, our counselors can help you recover from trauma to improve your quality of life. In addition to counselling, our professionally guided support groups offer a safe space to share experiences, provide education, and help break isolation.

Our work with mothers includes:

  • Sharing stories and breaking the silence around conjugal abuse

  • Focusing on strengths and resiliency

  • Accessible brain science and psychoeducation about trauma

  • Strengthening communication between mother and child

  • Practical tools for identifying and regulating emotions

  • Skills for building healthy relationships and self identity

Our work with children and youth includes:

  • Breaking the secret around conjugal violence

  • Exploring feelings

  • Clarifying that violence is not their fault

  • Modeling healthy alternative for expressing feelings

  • Enhancing self esteem by focusing on strengths and abilities

  • Preparing for custodial visits and safety planning

  • Providing a positive, nurturing environment
