Anti-Violence Workshops

Breaking the cycle of intimate partner abuse through education, prevention and advocacy

At Auberge Shalom, we dream of a world where abuse and violence against women ceases to exist, and until such a time we commit to actively raising awareness on the issue. We have a long and dedicated history of conducting prevention and outreach work – from small parlour groups, to anti-violence workshops in schools, to larger-scale community events.

No matter the venue or audience, our goal is always to demystify Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and the impacts of trauma while also equipping individuals with tools to support someone in need.

  • Presentations for youth cover the spectrum of relationships (healthy, unhealthy and abusive relationships). Presenters will help youth develop healthy relationships by talking about communication, consent, and emotions. They will also explain what to be careful of in unhealthy relationships and how to help friends and family. These presentations are offered in schools, summer camps, Bar & Bat Mitzvah classes, among other groups.

  • Presentations in CEGEPs & Universities review the relationship spectrum, helping them to understand how to differentiate between healthy, unhealthy and abusive relationship dynamics. Students will learn how abusive relationships affect the brain, cause trauma, and make it difficult for those in relationships to leave, as well as what they can do on an individual and societal level to make a difference.

  • Presentations for service professionals (including health care workers, hair-stylists, teachers, and government employees) look at the prevalence of intimate partner violence and how to recognize it. Participants will leave these presentations with tools and resources to help those in abusive relationships.

  • Auberge Shalom offers presentations at diverse community gatherings, such as third party fundraising events, parlour groups, and synagogue events. These presentations help participants understand some of the causes for intimate partner violence, who is affected and how. Presenters will talk to participants about what they can do on an individual and societal level to make a difference.

  • For members of the Orthodox Jewish community, including Hasidic and Sephardi groups, Auberge Shalom can offer tailored presentations on topics including healthy relationships, increasing awareness of domestic abuse and how community members can help.
